Chevy 2500 Pays Tribute to the Old Days of Service Stations

Chevy 2500

Patina’d Chevy 2500 truck honors a time when service stations sold more than flat sodas and chili of questionable origin!

Trips to the gas station are much, much different these days than they used to be. In the old days, friendly folks came out and pumped your gas for you. Heck, they even did repair and maintenance work. If you needed a tow or ran out of gas somewhere, they’d bring it to you. And if they needed to do any of that or even pick up some parts (or some lunch) they’d do it in a shop truck like this 1986 Chevy 2500 that we spotted at the Leake Auctions site.

Jobs like these define why we love trucks in the first place, of course. They have to be able to do everything. From free a stuck vehicle from a ditch to haul heavy loads back from the junkyard. And that’s why your local, friendly service station owner relied on them to do just that. Nowadays, the best you can hope for is a fill up. Or maybe a comically large soda and a vomit-inducing hot dog!

The previous owner of this Chevy 2500 obviously sought out to pay tribute to the bygone era. And by the looks of the finished product, we’d say they easily accomplished that goal. The patina paint job and hand painted lettering makes this ’80s ride look like a proper ’60s or ’70s service station workhorse. It was actually built as a tribute to the old Mobil service trucks, hence the old school logo on the doors. Heck, it even comes with a replica Mobil fuel pump!

If you’re a modern day gas station/service center owner, we can’t think of a cooler ride to use as a display or work truck. But even if you don’t, this package comes with most of what you need to live out that dream. Not to mention serve as a reminder when trips to the service station were much different than they are today!
