Colorado ZR2 Catches Crazy Air, Survives: Wildin’ Out Wednesdays

By -

Some think that an insane jump bent the frame of this Colorado ZR2. But the little pickup is tougher than that!

One of the hottest trends sweeping the world of off-roading in recent years is jumping. Heck, there’s even a hugely popular event known as Jump Champs that focuses solely on this activity. And there are two major driving forces behind this immensely popular craze. For starters, it’s a whole lot of fun to jump your truck. And for everyone else, it’s a whole lot of fun to watch trucks catch major air. But this Chevy Colorado ZR2 enjoyed only a brief moment of glory in this jump attempt, unfortunately.

But oh, what a glorious moment it was. Launching off the sandy dunes of Pismo Beach in Oceana Dunes, California, the Colorado ZR2 catches more air than we’ve ever seen from one of these mid-size off-road mavens. These things are built for this kind of stuff, after all, and they can take a great deal of punishment. But as many have learned the hard way, there’s only so much you can do in a stock pickup of any ilk. And even the advanced suspension on the purpose-built Colorado ZR2 is no match for a crazy high jump like this one.

It’s all good until the Chevy comes crashing down, front end first, and you can instantly hear what sounds like breakage. It’s more than enough to make us cringe and the camera man go “whoooaaaa.”  But after a thorough inspection, it looks like the mighty little pickup is just fine. And despite theories that the frame might have bent in the comments, the owner chimes in with some clarification.

“Truck is fine. Was not totaled, will not see a body shop, and kept off-roading and towing other trucks out all day. Still off-roading in it. Truck is badass. Sometimes you need good titles to get views. Not totaled or turned into insurance.”

So there you go. It appears that the mighty Colorado ZR2 is even tougher than we thought. But we’d suggest investing in a long-travel suspension if you plan on jumping yours like this, regardless!
