Custom 1974 Chevy C30 Crew Cab Dually Is a Gorgeous, Low-Slung Workhorse
This amazing 1970 Chevy C30 has the best of both worlds when it comes to vintage bits and modern amenities and technology.
Old square-body Chevy trucks and SUVs have long been the proverbial apple of Bow Tie fans’ eyes, but they’ve also quickly risen to prominence in the collector car world, too. This means that we come across plenty of gorgeous, low-mile and original or totally custom examples of those vehicles on a regular basis, many of them trading for huge money as of late. That’s likely to include this stunning 1974 Chevy C30 Crew Cab dually as well, because it’s a seriously impressive build that’s set to cross the block at Barrett-Jackson’s flagship Scottsdale auction next month, too.
This 1974 Chevy C30 was built by the folks at Tre 5 Customs in Peoria, Arizona, though it was already partially modified when they took possession of the big dually. At that point, it was riding on a custom Porterbuilt frame with an AccuAir e-level air management system, making for a solid base. The massive hauler is powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins 6BT 12-valve diesel engine with a P-pump and a compound turbo, sending that power to the wheels via an Allison A1000 six-speed automatic transmission with all-billet internals and a billet torque converter.
On the outside, Tre 5 worked some serious magic in terms of straitening everything out before IKandy Paintworks replicated the factory two-tone scheme with a custom Metallic Blue Pearl and white combination – a theme that continues through the interior doorjambs and engine bay, impressively enough. They coated the undersides with bedliner material in case the new owner wants to drive in inclement weather, while finishing touches on the outside include an Engineered Vintage billet grille, custom billet badging and door handles, and a gooseneck hitch for towing heavy loads.
The interior, as one would expect, is chock full of nifty details and amenities as well. That starts with four Snowden bucket seats, a full-length console with a trio of 15-inch subwoofers, and a double-DIN touchscreen paired with a wireless phone charger. The rear seats are molded directly into the rear portion of the cab, and Ruddy Made supplied a one-piece fiberglass headliner, while the door panels hold even more speakers. There’s plenty of billet present here too – such as the steering wheel – and one will also find modern goods like a Restomod Haymaker HVAC setup and Dakota Digital gauges.
Add it all up, and you’ve got a vintage Chevy C30 that not only looks incredible, but it also has pretty much everything one could want in a new truck, too. Throw in one of the more legendary diesel powerplants that’s ever existed, and you’ve got a seriously compelling combination that that would make a great show rig or regular weekend driver.
