Dear Buick, Follow Lexus’s Lead and Build the Avista

2016 Buick Avista Concept

For the last two years at the Detroit Auto Show, Buick has shown off a stunning concept. Last year, it was the full-size Avenir concept. This year, it’s the gorgeous Avista coupe. They are great talking points and are a way to show off which way the brand is headed, but Buick really needs to look at Lexus and follow their lead. They need to build the Avista.

Lexus had no intention of putting the LF-LC into production. It was a wild-looking concept that couldn’t even be practically produced. But feedback was positive, and Mr. Akio Toyoda said, “let’s do it.” At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, we saw the production version, and it didn’t vary much different from the concept.

That’s what Buick needs to do. I’ve only seen positive feedback on the Avista, and I admit that it is an absolutely stunning vehicle to look at in person. It seems to check all of the right boxes to be a sales success, including looking like no other car on the road.

To me, the lowly old automotive journalist, it seems like a no-brainer. Building this car would get more people talking about the brand, it would get even younger people into the showrooms, and it’d be better looking than the newest slew of Cadillacs.

Build it please! Thanks.
