Five-Year-Old Lila Kalis Beat a 1,200 HP Classic Camaro in a Drag Race!

Lila Kalis has not had a normal little kid life. Daughter of street racer and skateboarder Josh Kalis, Lila was behind the wheel of a battery-powered mini G-Wagon at 11 months and has progressed since there. She’s had the AMG, a Dodge Viper, a blue Corvette, a black Corvette, and the newest Corvette that is nicknamed the Red Dragon.

The Dragon is a completely custom machine. Instead of a 24-volt battery, this car uses a 36. Josh also changed the pedals, added lead weight to the floor of the car to balance it out, installed a chain-driven one-horsepower brushless electric motor, added a real brake caliper with hydraulic brakes, and put in a hand brake for some sweet drifts. Together, that means a top speed of about 23 mph, but Josh limited it to 15 for around the neighborhood. According to Josh, it scales to about a 3,800-pound car with 1,100-horsepower. Lila’s passion for driving and Josh’s skateboarding connection put her in a position to even do some hot laps with at an indoor go-kart track with Subaru rally racer and skating legend Bucky Lasek.

For this video, however, Lila was outdoor at a real drag racing strip. Her Red Dragon was pitted against Josh’s 1,200-horsepower 1969 Chevrolet Camaro (literal dream car status). It was a tall task for Lila’s first-ever half-mile run, but she was ready. She got her own racing suit, she got her own helmet, and she had the GoPro mounted and ready to go. In a bit of a shocker, her run at theĀ Coalinga airfield at the Shift-S3ctor half mile Airstrip Attack hit a top speed of 18.3 mph, and she edged out the Camaro.

She must have snuck a supercharger in there to complete the Red Dragon Z06 conversion when Josh wasn’t looking …
