In a world full of wild customs, this Fifties Chevy takes the road less traveled.

We live in a world where it’s getting harder and harder to find vintage trucks that bear much resemblance to their original configuration. For every stock restoration job, we see at least ten total customs. This is understandable, of course. After all, old trucks don’t exactly pack things like ride quality, power, and creature comforts. But there is a compromise, and it lies in this 1951 Chevy truck.

We spotted the beautiful ride while perusing listings over at Classic Cars. Obviously, we were drawn in by the straight lines and flawless silver paint, accented by lots of shiny original chrome. But we’re also digging on the timeless American Racing Torq Thrust wheels, which make a perfect modern addition for this otherwise period ride.

And that theme of mostly old and somewhat new carries on to the rest of the truck. The original 235 ci 6-cylinder engine surprisingly still chugs along under that curvy hood. You’ll still shift the old fashioned way with a steering column mounted 3-speed manual. And yet, the whole thing has been converted over to a 12-volt electrical system.

Inside this cab of this 1951 Chevy truck, you’ll find much of the same. Plenty of freshly restored original trim and not much else. Save for a modern AM/FM stereo hiding within the vintage dash. Essentially, the builder of this beauty wanted to retain all the 50s charm of the original. But he also wanted to do so without sacrificing a couple of modern creature comforts.

And that’s the rub with this build. While most ’50s trucks have been taken beyond the point of no return, this one can easily be converted back to stock if so desired. Probably in less than a couple of hours. For staunchly refusing to follow the full-on custom trend, we salute this silver gem. And the brave man who decided to do so.
