HUMMER EV Takes on Moab as Part of Preproduction Testing
General Motors President shares pictures of the HUMMER EV proving its off-road chops in Moab during validation testing.
The GMC HUMMER EV is an all-electric supertruck. The top models can rocket to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds and boast over 800 horsepower. But speed is not the only HUMMER EV party trick. The original HUMMER made its mark as a rugged go-anywhere vehicle. Switching to electric power will not change that. The new HUMMER needs to impress off-road. And if you are going to test a vehicle off-road, where do you go? Moab. If the HUMMER EV can conquer the trails at Moab, then it can conquer just about anything.
GM President Mark Reuss recently shared a post on LinkedIn showing pictures of the HUMMER EV taking on Moab trails as part of the final validation tests before production begins. He stated in his post: “Check out the GMC HUMMER #EV SUV conquering Moab as our development team performs final testing validation work out on the trails. With its aggressive 49-degree departure angle and tight turning radius of just 35.4-feet, the HUMMER EV SUV’s maneuverability, capability, and performance make it an off-road supertruck. Production begins in early 2023!” If you haven’t reserved your HUMMER EV yet, you can do so by clicking here.
HUMMER EV Rollout
There will be four HUMMER EV models to choose from. The HUMMER EV Edition 1 will be the first to make it to the public. Demand has been hot for this one and reservations are already full for this model. But the HUMMER EV 3X and HUMMER EV 2X should not be too far behind and land in driveways in spring of 2023. The HUMMER EV 2 is expected to arrive in the spring of 2024. The EV 2 will be the least expensive model with an estimated MSRP of $79,995. Each step up the model ladder comes with a $10,000 price increase. You can still reserve any of three lower models.
All-Electric in Moab?
The power, suspension, tires, and technology should enable any of the HUMMER EV models to take on some of the tougher trails in Moab. However, unlike a traditional gas or diesel-powered trucks or SUVs you can’t carry extra cans of electricity on the trail with you. So, range and power consumption is definitely something you will have to pay close attention to if you plan to take this vehicle to remote regions. The good news is that the EV 2X model and above is expected to offer over 300 miles of range and be 800-Volt DC fast charge capable, up to 300kW. Still, you will need a really long extension cord if you run out of juice on the trail.
What has you excited?
The HUMMER EV appears to be one heck of a vehicle. It will have the ability to accelerate as quick as most sports cars. Yet, it will go further off-road than any sports car could dream of. On top of that the interior will be spacious and packed with luxury and technology to rival the best luxury sedans and SUVs. In short, there is nothing the HUMMER EV can’t do exceptionally well. And each day we are getting closer to these becoming a reality.
