Monte Carlo’s Bizarre Drag Race Mishap is Badass…and Baffling (Video)

Remember, folks, cheap components and drag racing don’t mix.

We here at Chevrolet Forum love us some drag racing. But we also love fail videos, even when the unfortunate subject is a Chevy. After all, we feel like you can learn a lot from the mistakes of others. Or at least that’s what we learned back in kindergarten. And this video, aside from providing some serious entertainment, serves as an important reminder for all of us.

That reminder is cheap (and sometimes OEM) components aren’t very safe. This is especially true if you’re getting ready to make a pass down the drag strip. If you ignore this fact, you’ll probably end up looking like this Monte Carlo driver. Which means you’ll be facing a serious repair bill. Not to mention garnering the type of internet fame you probably don’t want.

In all fairness, the use of heavy, giant wheels probably didn’t help matters either. When was the last time you saw a professional drag racer running 24s? That much weight and stock wheel studs is virtually guaranteed to equal failure. Especially when your car is producing more power than stock, which we assume this Monte Carlo is.

The other good news is that the failure occurred in the first sixty feet. Had the wheels come off further down the track, or while on the freeway, things could have ended much worse. So remember kids – going cheap on important parts might seem like a good idea, but it’s not. Like everything else in life, stuff that’s cheap and easy is rarely good. And sometimes, it can be downright dangerous.
