Tahoe RST vs. Yukon Denali: Battle of the 6.2L V8s

By -

Both of these full-size GM SUVs come with the same engine. But which one comes out on top in a drag race?

It’s safe to say that if you’re in the market for a full-size SUV, you won’t find many better than the Chevy Tahoe RST and GMC Yukon Denali. Both offer up plenty of towing capacity, supreme comfort, and loads of space for the whole family. And, unlike many competitor offerings, they’re real-life body-on-frame trucks. Not some kind of gussied up crossover.

Both of these SUVs share a lot in common, with few deviations other than unique brand styling. With nearly identical construction and 100% identical powerplants – GM’s 6.2-liter V8. No matter which you choose, you’ll get a healthy 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. And both the Tahoe RST and Yukon Denali also come equipped with identical 10-speed automatic transmissions.

Tahoe RST

So the real question is, which one of these GM ‘utes is the fastest? Since the Tahoe is branded as a performance offering, it comes in as the favorite. But the real difference here actually lies in the fact that The Fast Lane Truck opted to race it against an XL Denali. So that extra length and corresponding weight is what ultimately decides the race.

But while the Tahoe RST edges out the Denali in all-around performance, the GMC ‘ute has the advantage in pure luxury. So no matter which flavor you choose, you truly can’t go wrong. Want speed and performance with your utility? The Tahoe RST is for you. Want ultimate comfort? Get a Yukon XL Denali. And if you want it all, perhaps wait a little bit longer and maybe you can get a Denali RST, perhaps?
