2017 Woodward Dream Cruise Brings Out the Best Trucks
Although it was a tough task, here’s Chevrolet Forum‘s top five trucks from the celebrated Michigan meet-up.
Chevrolet Forum was recently on hand to witness the spectacle that is the 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Now in its twenty-third year, the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture attracts over 1 million visitors and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, and some particularly badass Chevy trucks.
The Dream Cruise took place on August 19 along a 16-mile stretch on Detroit’s historic Woodward Avenue. And from the many incredible vehicles that were on display, here are our top five trucks (in no particular order of awesomeness).
1. Red Beauty with Clean Engine Bay
A classic red Chevy truck is pretty cool and all but this mid-’50s Chevy truck really grabbed our attention. Why? The attention to detail with nothing attached to the fire wall.
There is clean and then there is this truck. Converted over with a LS engine and a much larger radiator as well as a power steering pump, this Chevy is ready to rock and roll.
Our only puzzlement on this truck was where the brake booster is located. We simply couldn’t find it in the engine bay anywhere. Following the brake lines under the frame and back up into the cabin, we could only come to the conclusion, the brake booster is mounted under the seat.
Whether you like the clean look or not, you have to appreciate the time and effort that went into this truck. We certainly did.
2. Sharp 1950s Chevrolet Apache with Turquoise Paint Job
Away from Woodward and sitting on a residential street, we ran into our second favorite Chevy. It is a 1950s-era Apache with a great paint job.
This truck was incredibly clean and unlike the model above, it was fully badged. We also liked the use of chrome on the front and on the spare tire. It is tastefully done without looking obnoxious.
3. Old School Chevy Suburban with Stock 283 Engine
We like a LS engine just as much as everyone else, but there is something to be said for keeping a truck stock. In this case, we found this sharp Chevy Suburban that looked like it was right from the factory.
Inside the engine bay was a stock 283 V-8 engine with the stock paint job on the block. Also, this owner kept the carburetor and air cleaner stock which is a nice touch you don’t see all the time.
The look is complete with the white wall tires and the perfectly lined up trim lines. While the Wayne State sticker is not from factory, we will let that detail slide.
4. Ready-to-Get-Dirty, 2-Door Chevy Blazer
Lately it seems that the Ford Bronco has been all the rage, yet where is the love for the Chevy Blazer? This truck battled the Bronco back in the day for trail dominance, and this bad boy looks ready to do battle again.
We chased several Chevy Blazers around in traffic throughout the day and never did find one stopped. These owners were simply having too much behind the wheel looking down on a variety of muscle cars.
While we wish we had more details for you on this one like lift and tires, we only have these photos of a very clean and drool worthy Chevy Blazer.
5. The Oddball
We would like to tell you we figured out exactly what this truck was/is/will be. Sadly, we don’t really have all the Frankenstein parts figured out. There are two things we definitely do know: 1. It is a Chevy. 2. It is a truck. As for the rest, your guess is as good as ours.
