Is Your Truck Suffering from the ‘Chevy Shake?’

A strong and mysterious shake or vibration seems to plague 2014 – 2016 Chevy and GMC half-ton pickup trucks. But whether it’s really taking GM this long to figure it out, or they’ve simply abandoned resolution until the new platform comes out, it’s infuriating truck owners; and rightly so…

Known as the ‘Chevy Shake,’ it all begins after a measly 1,000 miles into the vehicle’s life, or at least that’s when the majority of cases have been reported. What starts as a light vibration at the wheel, eventually is felt as a major ‘shake’ at the steering wheel, roof, and is strong enough to shake the cabin and physically upset driver and passengers.

Such is the case of Ron Seewald, who traded in his 2014 Sierra due to various malfunctions for a nice, shiny and brand-spanking-new 2016 Sierra Denali 1500 crew cab. Sadly enough, Ron was almost forced to do so, as his 2014 Sierra was plagued with enough problems that GM offered to match the price of the new truck compared to his 2014, and the dealer covered taxes and fees, helping Ron get into a new truck and forget the pain. So he thought…

After just 1,000 miles, Ron started feeling the ‘Chevy Shake,’ and he simply can’t believe his luck. Ron knows that GM is aware of the issue, and have even created two safety bulletins revolving around strong vibrations and booming sounds. The bulletins focus around faulty tires, prop shafts, re-tightening body mounts and checking driveline angles as well as replacing drive shafts. It also mentions checking the drive shafts for dents, or poorly attached roof sheet metal.

All communications from GM urge owners to visit their local dealerships, even though there isn’t a real fix to this issue yet. We’ll keep you posted…
