Would You Buy One? Silverado SS Stepside Rendering Has Us Drooling

Silverado SS Stepside

This Silverado SS Stepside does not exist yet, but if Chevy built it, they would make a lot of our dreams come true.

A Silverado SS pickup truck is not a new concept. Chevy has built a couple generations of just such a truck. However, production ended back in 2006 and there has not been one since. But what if there was one? Would you buy it? Before you answer, what if we were talking about a Silverado SS Stepside that had a Chevy 632 big block making 1,000 horsepower under the hood? And what if it looked like the rendering we see here? We think this truck would have a line of buyers a mile long. The rendering was created by the artist known as wb.artist20 on Instagram and we think he knocked it out of the park.

His work was recently shared in a video posted to the Brian Mello YouTube channel. And as you can see it is quite a piece of work. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. EVs are coming fast, and GM has committed to transitioning to an all-EV future. The chances of them actually building anything with a monster 632 cubic inch V8 engine in it at this point are extremely low. But extremely low is not zero, so let’s imagine for a little bit that it could happen. A truck like this would obviously not be cheap, but it would also become an instant classic that will always be worth at least what you paid for it. So, would you buy one?

Chevy Stepside

There is just something about a Stepside isn’t there? They not only look great with the flared fenders, but are practical as well with that side step providing easy access to the bed. Unfortunately, Chevy has not built a stepside in almost 20 years now. So, take everything else away from this rending for a moment. Forget the big engine, and brakes and so on. Wouldn’t it be nice if Chevy offered just a regular Stepside on the new Silverado? We think people would get excited just to have that option.

But if we are going to dream of a Stepside we may as well go all the way. You can order a ZZ632 crate motor from Chevy today. On 93 pump gas this unit will put out 1,004 horsepower and 876 pound-feet of torque. That is plenty of sport to put in your sport truck. The Silverado SS Stepside rendering, we see here is certainly bold. But with this beast under the hood, you can be sure you have the performance to backup the looks.

Wheels

This concept truck is rolling on 22-inch forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero rubber. Looking through the wheels you will see a massive, drilled brake rotor. That rotor is clamped down on by a set of Wilwood calipers. This thing should stop as well as it can go. The one thing that seems curiously absent in the rendering is an exhaust. Side pipes would look sick on this thing. Or even a nice quad exhaust exiting the rear would finish it off nicely. But that is a nit to pick. This thing looks fantastic, and we wish we could will it to life. If we could, would you buy a Silverado SS Stepside like this? Head to the Chevrolet Forum forums and let us know what you think.
