$105,000 Silverado EV Has One of the Coolest Beds Ever

All-electric Chevy Silverado EV offers an expanding bed that may be the roomiest pickup bed any truck has ever come with, technically.

Look, we aren’t here to talk about the insane $105,000 price tag of the new Silverado EV. There’s no shortage of that going around elsewhere. In addition, the sales of the Hummer EV have shown without doubt that six-figure price tags on EVs don’t scare away buyers. We also aren’t here to complain about it being electric because, well, it’s an EV. Love it or hate it, it is what it is. What we are here to talk about, though, is the bed on this thing. Somehow, this concept has not been touched in the nearly 100-year history of the pickup truck. That’s a shame because it’s one of the best things we’ve ever seen!

Autoblog got a chance to be up close and personal with the new Silverado EV recently. Fortunately, they got some great photos detailing the “expanding bed” feature. Admittedly, from the side profile, the Avalanche-like appearance of the Silverado EV would lead one to believe there’s not much bed space. However, working your way around the back reveals that the bed is actually a lot roomier than you might have thought. That rings true in length and especially depth. However, it gets better.

Ladies and Gentlemen; The Greatest Pickup Bed Ever

That’s right! The wall between the bed and the cab on the new Silverado EV can fold flat. This allows long cargo to run straight into the truck and expands the overall usable length of the bed by a few feet. This extends the usable bed length from six feet to 11 feet! That can make or break a lot of cargo!

Better still is that the wall is in a 60/40 configuration like many vehicle rear seats. So, if you only need half of the bed to expand storage while keeping one rear seat open in the cab, you can easily achieve that. Overall, this expansion into the cab makes a multitude of configurations and a myriad of hauling and cargo loads a possibility. Whether you like the electric side of things or not, you have to admit it’s pretty dang cool.

Of course, it may not be a feature you’ll want to use in the rain. Still, it’s something worth getting excited about!

The $105,000 price tag of the new Silverado EV is undoubtedly a barrier to entry that you can’t ignore. Indeed, this isn’t a pickup for everyone. However, the selling-out of the $108,700 Hummer EV is more than enough tell-tale to lead us to assume that this truck will have no issues selling.

So, to those lucky enough to be in a position to afford the new Silverado EV, we hope you put this excellent feature to good use!
