Default 1/2 Drop?

I just bought a 1997 C1500 after having a 1998 S10 with a 5/7 Belltech drop. It was way too low and stiff for my taste. I bottomed out frequently, the ride was jarring and stiff. I'm very happy to be rid of it.

I'm about to purchase some 18" American Racing Torq Thrusts on Facebook wrapped in 255/60/18 tires. The look I'm going for is that classic muscle street truck with some stance, but not so much that I couldn't go down some dirt roads, or that it becomes stiff and jarring.

From what I've read, the 2/4 drops are pretty much the consensus for the "perfect" drop, but frequently do sacrifice some ride quality and result in folks having to remove/shave bumpstops. My initial thoughts were to go with the DJM kit with drop hangers, shackles, and spindles.

Then I thought a good compromise might be 1" drop springs and 2" drop shackles. My gut tells me it wouldn't drop it enough visually to warrant the work needed to install it, and that the 2/4 would look better.

Anyone do the 1/2 and feel happy about it? Anyone have the 2/4 and found how to make it ride well without needing to remove the bumpstops?
