1990 chevy interior wiring
Hello everyone, new here, just got a new truck with some wiring issues. The interior lights don't come on when you open the door. The orange and black wires coming from the cigarette lighter is cut. I tried putting in a USB charger in the lighters place, but everytime I put a fuse in the courtesy plug it blows. I also tried putting in a new head unit, but i discovered the stock wiring harness plug is also cut, along with the dome light plug above head. The problem is I can't find a short anywhere. Does anyone have a wiring diagram, or any idea what the heck is going on? Much appreciated
If the wiring has been hacked up, a diagram may not be of much help as the PO could’ve spliced wires without concern of what they’re supposed to be powering.
FYI The cigarette lighter is actually powered by the park lamp fuse - it’s spliced into the circuit near the horn relay.
Here’s a list of components that should be powered by the courtesy fuse so you can at least try unplugging them to isolate the source of the fault - at least, the ones that still exist.
Radio
Dome light
Driver door dome light switch
Cargo Light
Cargo light switch
Courtesy lights
Don’t overlook the fusible links (passenger side firewall) as a potential source of the problem. They provide power to nearly every component in the truck, especially the cab. If the fuses are blowing as soon as they’re installed it’s not unreasonable to think one or more of those links is corroded or damaged.
