1990 Chevy K1500 V8 5.7 thumping noise
Hello all
I thought I’d jump on this forum because I am completely perplexed on an issue with my 1990 K1500 chevy pick up. It started about a month ago where I was experiencing a thump or chug every so often when the truck was in idle. Then it started happening more consistently when driving.. I took it to my trusted mechanic- he changed the spark plugs, distributor rotor, cap and distributor shaft, ignition control module … and still the sound was there. Then he noticed my fuel filter was completely clogged with my fuel lines all rusted. So he replaced the filter and the 3 fuel lines. (Brake line still needs replacing) still the issue persisted. Now he still doesn’t really know what is going on - I think it had something to do with my oil filler cap being broken and condensation getting into engine- I replaced the cap just today and also the round air filter … anyways if anyone has any idea as to what could be happening I would really appreciate it. Compression test was done by the way and there wasn’t any strong concern regarding the pistons

Might be the tires, but I doubt it. Could be the fuel injectors or a bad catalytic converter.
