Default 1992 Transmission Won't Shift Out Of Second

Hi all... I about two weeks ago I bought a 1992 I think K1500 but honestly the thing is a frankentruck... It ran and drove beautifully when I bought it, but then a couple days ago it stopped shifting into third or higher and my speedometer is no longer working... I can manually shift first and second but if I put it in drive from there it just revs up. I have absolutely no idea what to do here... I think it has the 700R4 transmission. It was basically out of nowhere, drove it 30 miles from home to a friend's place to work on it, shifted happily and granted the speedometer read 5 mph faster than actual speed, it worked and then the following morning I couldn't drive it to the parts store, she died pulling out of the driveway so I got her back situated and let her run a while and warm up. I've known the truck about a year and she's never done that before, she's never had an issue turning over and never had a problem aside from the brake lights not working. Running lights and blinkers work fine so I was trying to fix the brake lights and when I figured out I probably just need a new brake switch for the pedal. I checked all the wires on the fuse panel and has to move it around a bit to check em all, could that have caused my transmission and speedometer to go out?? Please someone help me, this truck is my only way to get around, busses and taxis don't run in my area... Please help

I don’t know that much about sorting out transmission problems but first thing to do is to confirm what kind of transmission you have in there. Google how to identify GM transmissions. I’m not sure when the 4l60e broke in but if you did have a 4l60e then shifting and speedo going out at same time could be the DRAC or sensor on trans output shaft. If it’s a 700r then it would seem those shift problems and Speedo quitting is unrelated.

it is the 700R4.... today everything only got worse..... I was driving it to the shop because honestly, i have nobody around who can help me.... and while at a red light, all my gauges that work aside from my gas gauge were wiggling back and forth, I noticed my odometer isn't working, and also my service engine soon light came on. the guy who was supposed to be at the shop, unfortunately, was not and nobody will be there until Monday.... so she's going to sit a few days... i did finally check the TV cable and its connection to the carburetor which is very loose and has what seems to be wayyy too much slack, though the adjustment bracket doesn't have the thing that changes how tight that cable is so I couldn't change the angle or fix the droop in it, hoping the shop can help me out on Monday and I am begging everything above the sky for the truck to not need a new tranny... my now ex just dissappeared with the last of my money, i cant really afford to replace it right now /:
