1992 v6 to v8 conversion

Default 1992 v6 to v8 conversion

Our one owner 1996 K1500 V6 will be upgraded with a 1996 Vortec. We have all the wiring loom for the V8 from the bulkhead forward and inside the cab. The looms both look similar. Can the V6 loom be swapped with the V8 loom along with the V8 computer and run? What else needs to be done?

I would think you should be ok, since the computer/ECM is under the hood on the 1996 (I drive a 1996 C1500 with the 5.0L Vortec V8). If you have the complete harness from under the hood, very limited stuff ran back inside the cab on those trucks - just speed, tach, temp, voltage, etc.

This website has the full manuals for all the 1996 Chevrolet trucks, and you should be able to compare wiring diagram information for the two engines, and it might tell you more:
