Default 1995 Chevy 1500 windshield installation

My windshield is starting to leak. Do I replace the weatherstripping, molding seal? Or, just glue windshield back in place... How does old seal come off? Do I save it and reglue it since there may not be a replacement? Does anyone have or know of web link that describes removal, parts needed and installation of old glass. I have found several but they are not for anything close to my year, make, model, etc. Help.

My 1996 C1500 windshield was leaking on the passenger side top in... like 2002. I went to a windshield place, and the guy there told me he could probably NOT remove the glass without breaking it, but for free he went up along the top of the windshield, on the inside, with a bead of some black sealant, and pushed it up in there, forming it with his finger, up above the the front edge of the headliner board. It has never leaked since.

I think when it is installed, they set the glass into some silicone like he used, and then install the exterior molding. That silicone holds onto the glass, and is likely why it is hard to remove without breaking. If you can find replacement for the exterior molding, you MIGHT seal it from the outside and then put the new molding on.

The truck is not used much. By accident I discovered it leaking. I suspect rust inside where the metal touches seal. So, if shop pulls windshield and does NOT break it, I feel that I will have to do some body work. I'm taking it to Safelite and get an estimate. THANKS!

You need to remove the old urethane adhesive and weatherstripping, clean the surfaces, and reinstall the windshield using proper urethane adhesive. Don’t just reglue the old seal, old molding is often damaged and won’t seal properly. Remove the old seal by carefully prying off the molding and cutting away the old adhesive, then clean and prep the windshield and frame. Apply new primer and urethane, set the glass in place, and reinstall the molding or weatherstripping. Let the adhesive cure fully before driving. If replacement molding isn’t available, you can reuse the old one only if it’s intact and flexible.
