Windshield beading
I am the proud owner of a Chevrolet G20 van that has been converted to a camper. I am looking for where I can buy the beading for the windshield online as I live in the UK. By beading I mean the strip of rubber and stuff that goes around the windscreen to hold it in place. The stuff I have at the moment has stiffened and I need to take the screen out to respray the van.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
How old is this van?
approx. 1990's and newer windshields are bonded in place by urethane.
you do not have the skills to remove and replace a windshield that is bonded in. The windshield is an integral part of the structural rigidity and must be installed correctly for proper air bag deployment.
You need the proper tools to remove, clean and reseal glass. If done wrong it will leak or worse; not bond properly. You don't just cut one out and plop it back in.
Spend the $100 to get this type done by a trained professional.
If the van is older and uses a gasket, I would contact a glass shop for obtaining a new one.

Many thanks.
The Van is 1989 and it seems like a rugged gasket seal such as:

I am concerned that I may be mistaking it though. Are there any obvious ways to tell the difference?

the old style seals that secure glass are large.
post a pic of the windshield and this seal on the vehicle.
that seal from the link does not secure glass. those seals are for around doors, not windshields.
Yours probably uses urethane. Most people break the windshield trying to remove it; if they have no experience with a bonded in windshield. That may not be a bad thing if the glass is old and pitted.
