Default 1995 k1500 trans problems

Hi I have a 1995 k1500 4x4 5.7, I’m having problems with my transmission. It will shift fine but if it idles too long the service engine light will come on and won’t shift from second. Also when I’m driving while I’m overdrive it seems like it shifts into neutral and then goes back into gear. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I hope somebody can point you in a better direction, but....

In my limited experience of 6 GM vehicles with 4L60E transmissions (or derivatives thereof such as the tranny in my 2006 Trailblazer SS), the transmissions needed rebuilt or replaced 100% of the time they exhibited weird issues such as yours.

The transmission shifts fine but only when it does that, shifts smooth as can be any other time
