Default 1996 k1500 5.0 issues

I have a 96'chevy k1500 with the 5.0 vortec and has about 155k miles. I am having multiple issues and am not sure if they are related or not. No check engine light is on .Would really appreciate any input.

1. Sometimes when I start the truck it will idle at 2k rpms. When I put it in drive or reverse it goes down to about 750 rpms. If I put it back into neutral or park it shoots back up to 2k rpms. Again it does not always do this

2. When the truck is cold it starts right up on the 2nd crank. When the truck is warmed up it and I shut it off and try to restart it. I have to give it quite a bit of gas for it to fire back up. If I let it cool down before I restart it it starts fine. It always does this.

3. Randomly when I shift from park or neutral to drive or reverse the truck idles way low , shoots up a little and kind of bogs out until the truck dies. Does not always do this.

4. The truck was empty and I fueled it up completely. I left the gas station and it started sputtering and misfiring and it died on me. I gave it gas and restarted it. Continued to run rough for a few miles and then it started to run fine.

I have changed the IAC hoping that would take care of the idle issue which it seemed like it did for a little while but it randomly comes back.

any input on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

glad you got it figured out. for other that want to test the CTS you can ohm them, for best results you can remove it (you'll lose some coolant so do it with a cold engine) and ohm the two prongs. you can then warm the sensor up in your hand and you should see the numbers change

Symptoms of a Defective C.T.S.
Check engine light is on
Bad gas mileage
Blowing black smoke
Running rich
Running lean

(Coolant Tempature Sensor) for the ECM on the intake
