1997 1500 5.7 with 5speed manual
I'm buying this truck that has pretty high mileage and it has a lifter tick and wanted to know what everyone here said about it I'm not spending to much on it and I'm not really going to be relying on it for transportation or anything so if I have to tear down the engine and do a rebuild no big deal.

Negotiate a price you can live with. Give it a good drive, and see if something is off. I bought an 1998 Chevy K-1500 and the stick-shift NV3500 is as smooth as silk. I can shift with one finger
and I don't have to worry about all the issue with an automatic. A little advice I use is I keep her in neutral at a long stop. Saves wear and tear on the throw-out bearing. If the owner doesn't have any records of the work done to it, change out all the fluids, front & back with synthetics.
You will need to use Synchomesh Fluids (The book might say to use ATF in the transmission and transfer case, (and you can if you wish to) but I use Valvoline Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid in the both the transmission and transfer case. I use Valvoline Synpower 75w-90 gear oil in the axles. And you can use another brand. I simply like Valvoline brand in my Chevy K-1500 and my Chevy Malibu.

So I went driving it today and the ticking is only really noticable above 2k rpms I put some marvels mystery oil in it when I got back to town and it seemed to quiet it up quite a bit but it's still there I'm thinking about pulling it apart and just doing a full rebuild on it since it has 365k on it I just haven't decided yet
