Default 1997 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado Z71 Stumbles on Acceleration/Incline

I have a 1997 Chevy K1500 Silverado 5.7L With a 4L60E Auto. Z71 Package, Whenever you get on the gas usually going up a hill or sometimes on flat roads starting out usually more in First it will hesitate and sputter a little bit but still continue to clime and shift. It does it mostly on damp and rainy days. It hasn’t been warm yet in PA so idk if it will act different to it. I bought the truck in October and the Plugs, Wires, Distributor and Cap were all done and brand new. I do have an exhaust leak in the front and I think it strongly contributes to it because of the Upstream and Downstream sensors? I’m not sure, anyway I have a couple codes. P0137, P0157, P0161, and a P1870. I know the last code, it’s a Trans Code, but my truck does not slip at all, and I believe the code did not come back. The fluid level was about a quarter inch overthe line so I took fluid out with a siringe, and I threw some Lucas Trans fix in it, haven’t had a major issue since. But the other codes are all 02 Sensor or Fuel Related. So should I replace the Throttle Posisiton sensor since it’s only a couple bucks? Or should I replace the 02 sensors? Or maybe look at IAT Sensor? If you could leave your opinion it would be greatly appreciated Thank you

MY TRUCK- 1996 Chevy K1500 Silverado 5.7L With a 4L60E Auto
I just had these similar issues. I changed all 4 of my O2 sensors and it went away. Now I am in the process of changing my Cat's because they are bad also. Power came back to my engine, but I have a feeling more is to come when my cat's are changed.
I also had a leak on the drivers side pipe to the manifold, new doughnut and gasket and the leak is gone. It took a 14mm socket and a breaker bar with about a 1 foot extension.
If you have a code reader with a live view. You need to look at the O2 sensors voltage. The upstream should be fluxing up and down very fast, faster than the reader can keep up. The down stream should stay pretty steady. Otherwise you have a bad sensor for sure. The downstream can look bad voltage wise but a Cat can also cause it not to stay steady.

I don’t have experience with engine & year but generally it’s good to start with basics. I’d check fuel pressure and timing to make sure they are correct and go from there. There’s a nice bit on this at chevytalk https://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/s...php?tid/253427. Low fuel presurre as well as timing set wrong can cause a lot of drivability problems. You also need to clear the codes. One of them appears to be saying the O2 sensor heater element shorted, high resistance or other. That could be sensor or cable/connector. I’d try to sort the o2 sensor codes and check basics before replacing something else.

Agree with Sabino - start with the basics. There's no sense changing or swapping out things without narrowing down other possibilities (and cheaper ones, too!).

I wouldn't necessarily replace the TPS right now because none of your codes are coming back for the sensor necessarily -- it's not like one of your codes is, for example, p0122. That being said, if you do decide to switch out the TPS, you can easily do it without disconnecting anything (may be a little awkward but it's doable).

Best of luck and keep us posted
