Default 1997 Chevy K1500 5.7 Check Engine Light

Check engine light continually comes on.
The carb is pretty black.
I clean the throttle body and carb then clear the code.
It will stay off for about 2-3 weeks (if that) then will come back on.
Should I replace the carb on it?
Any ideas?
Thanks for the opportunity to post.

You have a carb on a 1997 Chevy pickup? We need some OBD II codes.

This unit is what you should have, not TBI or a Carburetor.

Thank you very much for the info. I will take a pic and get back with you all.
I'll also get the codes showing.

Thanks again
