1998 2500 Silverado intermittent start
Very high hopes someone on here can help me. My 1998 Silverado will start when she wants to, and runs like a champ. I can run it all day without issue there have been many other times when I thought I corrected the issue that I have been stranded it used to start after setting for about half an hour. Now it is getting harder to even get her started it will start for a few seconds then die when this happens you know it isn’t going to start any time soon. Have replace fuel pump filter and numerous parts under the hood. Please help I love this truck but lately I haven’t been able to drive it and might have to junk it thank you
You need to isolate whether the problem when it happens is fuel or ignition. Get a can of starter fluid and the next time it acts up spray some starter fluid in the throttle body and start it, if it starts and runs out the fluid then you have a fuel delivery problem, fuel pump, fuel filter, cam sensor, pressure regulator, or spider. If it doesn't start on the fluid then it is likely an ignition problem, things to check, crank sensor, bad coil, coil wire, rotor, cap. Since it sounds like it has gotten worse, and since it would start in a half hour it sound like something has become heat sensitive, I'm guessing crank sensor or cam sensor, crank sensor tells the ignition when to fire, the cam sensor tells the fuel injectors when to fire.
