1998/99 3500 ABS brake issues- need ABS pump
I am a little confused, so bear with me. My father and I have a 1999- that's printed on the truck information and title- but I believe it is of the GMT400 generation. It has a 350, 5 speed/NV4500, 4WD, and it is a dump truck.
We bought the truck used from PA, with 58,000 miles on it. It is in pretty good shape, but it does show the wear and tear of PA winter roads.
We developed multiple brake fluid leaks, due to corroded lines. A local shop replaced the bad, and did new brakes on the truck. But, they couldn't get the ABS pump to bleed, the valves not opening up and allowing fluid to go to the back. They replaced the ABS pump with a used one, but that unit has had issues. We haven't put 60 miles on the truck since replacing it, and I've had to pull the fuse and disable it- it would activated 80% of the time when stopping. The brakes are still acting up- the pedal will go to the floor, it will be mushy but still brake, be rock hard and brake well, then go back to mushy- all in one day. I also found the ABS pump to be leaking fluid (not at a line), so the shop has the truck back and is looking at options. One, to replace the ABS pump with a new one, isn't an option- they don't appear to be available.
So, my question is this- does anyone know of a source for rebuilt ABS pumps for this generation of truck? I have done a good bit of searching, but found very little and what I could find is confusing. Any insight or help is appreciated!
Aside from the brake problem, we really do like the truck. We didn't want an automatic, and we don't drive it enough- 5-10 miles a week- to do a diesel justice. 4WD was also high on the priority list. So, this truck fits the bill.
