Default 5.7 tbi turns over, will misfire and die, next crank battery is dead

New battery, will still weak crank even with jumper cables attached from another car, starting to think it’s not the battery since even jumper cables don’t affect it.

ill charge battery all the way up, truck will crank and start, idles odd and will die if I don’t give it throttle

new parts
IAC
Plugs and wires
EGR valve
fuel pump
fuel filter
injectors cleaned and spray normally
new TBI gaskets and injector gaskets
new thermostat (missing the rubber ring around it)

Have you checked the alternator? What does your voltage look like when it does crank? Is voltage dying down before the engine starts dying?

Hooked a new battery up, same slow weak crank. Voltage is 13 before and after on the new battery. Buddy told me it might be the starter, I also realized I didn’t put a rubber washer around the new thermostat so possibly coolant is leaking by and making the temp sensor misread. I also replaced the temp sensor aswell. Will put a new rubber gasket around the thermostat today and see if that’s the issue. If not a new starter is going in.

I can’t get it running long enough to test voltage while running.

If it cranks at all, and will keep going while you give it gas, which you implied at one point, that implies a fuel delivery issue. If the starter is weak or dying, it usually won't turn over and crank at all.

but I didn’t think fuel delivery issue would cause a weak crank? I figured it would still try to crank normally not slow and weak. Possibly not a good spark? If so it may be the distributor. Trial and error is what I’ve been dealing with

Agreed. Lack of fuel delivery would not cause a slow turnover by the starter. But if it "catches" and starts running at all, if should keep running, even if the starter was turning it over slow. I feel that the fact you said it kept going if you gave it gas is a clue.

You could also be chasing more than one issue here. I.e. bad starter AND something else. I know for sure my 1996 has multiple codes set at the moment.

yea your most likely correct about multiple issues, starter I’ll replace, then if it runs better but still dies I’ll chase fuel delivery issue. I did the code reader trick without the machine and only code that showed up was 15. Which is temp sensor and I replaced that, code still shows up but not sure if I need to clear it or not.

Well, a lot of codes don't clear on their own until the vehicle goes through a drive cycle or two. Not sure with an ODB1 vehicle though. My 96 is ODB2, and fuel injected instead of TBI, so there are a lot of differences.
