Default 6.5 motor

Thinking about buying a 93 2500 with 178k on it. Just trying to get feed back on the 6.5 diesel that the seller has "bombproofed". Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a 92 k3500 6.5. It's a real turd compared to my cummins trucks. Expect about the same performance you would get out of a 5.7 with maybe a little more torque. Good thing about 92-93 is that their all mechanical injection, none of that pmd nonsense the later models have.

He has relocared the pmd, replaced glow plugs ,Watergate valve, upgraded fuel relay and added a marine fuel lift pump. I should've been more specific in saying I'm more concerned about reliability over performance. It would just pull a small boat.

A 93 wouldn't have had a PMD , so it's likely had a later model engine swap or something weird is going on there . Most people upgrading a 6.5 would get rid of the pmd and go mechanical.
The 6.5 isn't really known for reliability. Having a extra "known good" pmd is a must. Test your lift pump often. Having top notch batteries, cables, and glow plugs is essential, especially in winter. All grounds need cleaned/replaced often.
I also owned a 98 for several years, I have actually been really lucky with reliability compared to most 6.5 owners. I still wouldn't buy another unless the price was right. The only reason I bought the 92 was because it was a $500 truck, the previous owner was fed up with it and sold cheap.

Dieselplace and dieselbombers have alot of 6.5 info. Good places to do research and see if a 6.5 is for you.

Thanks for the info. I'm was mistaken the truck is actually a '94. The guy is asking 5200 for it. If I got it for say 4500, not sure it's worth the possible headaches. It is pretty flawless inside and out. Anything you'd suggest asking or getting checked by my mechanic?
