Default 700r4 burning up

I’ve had transmission problems for a while, first off I was new to working on Chevys since a year ago when I started to work on my truck. I installed a new motor and when I did the tv cable I didn’t know you had to adjust it unlike the governor. I went to the junk yard and pulled a 700r4 because I had burned mine out, I put it on and I pushed the button on my tv cable and accelerated it full throttle. I drove it a couple miles and it was shifting kinda late. Drove it a little more and it started to feel weak like it’s not catching up with the engine. Pulled the dip stick, smells burned like the last one. Did I do the adjustment wrong? Or is it probably the transmission I pulled was already bad. I’m just going to pull another one from the junkyard. But I’m just checking if I missed a step
