'88 305 head gasket job, now it won't stay running.
Hi everyone, I just did a head gasket job on my truck. I have a 2 door scottsdale with a 305. After we were all done with it we attempted to start it with no luck. Put it on the battery charger and let it sit for a while. It would then start but only ran while the throttle was cracked open. I have since replaced the distributor and made sure it was in correctly. Then when I went to start it, it would start with the throttle all the way to the floor and once I let off it would die. Anyone have this problem before? I'm at my wits end with it, I just want to drive it again. Should I replace the spark plug wires? Any help or advice is appreciated, thank you all.

Yes I did. But talking to some coworkers that had trucks almost identical I realized my problem may be I need a new fuel pump and filter since my truck had sat for long enough. They also said that their trucks would bog down when they turned right because the washer that kept the box inside the fuel tank had come off causing it to suck up to the fuel pump then causing it to burn up. So I have both of those on order and should come in this week, and I'll get it changed this weekend. I will let you know what I find out.
