Default 89 3500 454 TBI Will Not Idle

89 Silverado Dually, 454 TBI - New to me truck. When I bought the truck I replaced the Distributor, wires, coil, Two-wire coolant sending unit, MAP sensor. I rebuilt the TBI and replaced all associated gaskets. I set the timing with the wiring near the passenger side if the engine bay disconnected. I set it at 4* BTDC (ended up being 5* after distributor tightening). It ran, idled, and drove great for about 100 miles. Today I started it up, it is cold outside, it started fine. I put the chains on while it was warming up. I noticed the exhaust was rich smelling. Very rich. A few minutes later the truck died when trying to back up. Now it will start if I give it throttle but dies when I let it idle. Smells rich. I checked all wires, vacuum hoses, etc and did not see anything broken, cracked or disconnected. I can't move the truck or it dies even when feathering the throttle. IDEAS?

Patience sir - you just posted yesterday afternoon, I'm sure you will get some replys in the next day or two. My '93 5.7 with 350k is similar - starts ok, then within 30 secs runs rich & will die. If I hold rpms at 2-2500 for 30-60 secs then it idles ok again and drives well. So I will be following this one to see if it will help me as well. Good luck, Red

I looked around for a forum that had recent activity. This forum seemed to have a decent amount of recent activity so I posted here. My truck will not stay running due to this issue. I can't drive it. I searched through the forums of this site for similar posts. Everything I found covered replacing components I have already replaced or procedures I have already completed. My impatience is driven by necessity. Waiting two days for a forum response is not normal. I am not upset, I am frustrated at being stuck. If waiting two days here is normal, Okay. That just means I need to post somewhere that has more activity. I hope you eventually find a post that will assist you.
