I have a 97 extended cab with the 60/40 split bench with the folding center console. The console would get stuck in the upright position, usually I could knock it hard enough to fold it down. The last time I couldn't get it down, one of the brackets broke from hitting it.

Other than replacing the bracket I was hoping for help with why it's stuck. I have searched all over to no avail. Thanks in advance!

 

i know this is old, but in my searching for opening the lid, i saw some guy say to remove the 2 bolts on the side. that will allow you to tilt the console so you can see a spring on the side. he rigged it up, so he put mechanics wire on it so when it doesn't fold down, he pulls the wire which pulls the spring to release.
