Which ECM
Howdy! Brand new to your forum and hoping for some advice. I’m trying to figure out the best way to get the right ECM and chip for my 454. Here goes my story which I’d like to begin by saying that I had no experience with a Chevrolet engine swap other than the one that I just completed. I bought a 7.4l engine from a guy. I think he said it was out of a ‘93 K2500 suburban 4wd. The suburban is long gone and no vin or other info is available from the donor vehicle. I had the engine rebuilt and then I put it into my ‘74 C30 manual trans. dually. I replaced pretty much every sensor with new ACDelco parts. After completing the swap and setting the base timing I got a code 43. Electronic Spark Control Circuit. Since the knock sensor (it has 1), ignition module, wire harness, plugs cap wires are new I replaced the distributor pickup coil. Still couldn’t get it to run right. I took out the ECM the guy sold the engine with. The sticker on the outside of the ECM is faded but I can make out 8747. The prom chip is AKWA. I don’t think this is the right ECM. In fact I think the one I have is for a ‘80s 5.7 automatic without a knock sensor. Also, unclear on whether my engine should have an electronic spark control module mounted on a bracket or in the ECM. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to research this online and just can’t figure out what ECM and programming I need. Ideally I just want a plug and play deal if such a thing exists. I’m not savvy enough to get into bin programs or whatever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
