I don't think I would want to put a torch on a 6mm bolt broken flush with a aluminum cylinder head for very long. Don't think that was what he was saying?

Okay, my apologies to everyone for the delay. Life got in the way for a bit. So I finally had the manifolds installed by a mechanic. Now, for some reason, the truck is very sluggish and jumpy when trying to accelerate. I had them mount the y pipe with cat, and I'm wondering now if the cat is clogged or something. Spark plugs are old, plan on putting new plugs wires cap rotor. Can you think of any other reason for the rough acceleration change with new manifolds and old y pipe? This pipe is quite solid, didn't see a need to buy a new one considering the price.

Also, I'm quite. Upset that the mechanic cut my power steering bracket, rather than replace the two studs that hold the bracket to manifold to head. What's that about? Will this be a problem? They only had regular manifold bolts on hand I guess? Ugh

Update on the progress...I replaced all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor today. No change in hesitation when leaving from a stopped position. I can push the accelerator to the floor, truck will respond but not immediately. Takes a couple seconds to catch up. Any ideas? I should probably have fuel pressure checked, weak pump or clogged filter maybe? Still a bit suspect of the old cat, not sure how to test it.

a clogged cat would cause problems at the high end...after exhaust restriction has time to build up. If it was so blocked that it caused problems at the start...it wouldn't clear up the faster the engine speed.

Thank you for the reply. I'm happy to hear that, I've been going crazy trying to put the manifold/exhaust portion of the project behind me. Still not sure what to try next to remedy this new issue. I'm trying to do what I can myself to keep cost down. But I'm a backyard mechanic at best. I'm open to suggestions, does this sound like a fuel delivery issue? Any tests I can do to troubleshoot? Thanks again everyone for the advice!

could be a fuel issue but then it wouldnt get better, ill be more inclined to think it was a vacuum leak.

Kral auto parts bolt repair kits. Extremely solid and don't have to worry about bolts snapping again in the future. Also, maybe a $50 bill rather than $1,000 dollars...
