So I recently bought my 96 K1500 on a whim. Didn't research it, just needed a vehicle fast after totaling my 5series. Anyways just curious and wanted to see what everyone's favorite C or K1500 for this generation is😃

I own a great 1998 K-1500 long-bed Chevy pickup. Has the non-button, manual-shift NP-246 transfer case as well as the NP-3500 5-speed manual transmission, which shifts as smooth as silk. I am getting long in the tooth and have no plans on ever trading up to something newer. It has the original Forest Green Metallic paint, motor, transmission, and transfer case. The water pump went out five years ago, but everything else has been working well. It should as I use only top quality lubricants and fuels.
I’ve never owned one but when I was a teenager I really wanted a 93-96 K 1500, long box with single cab. Couldn’t say why other than I just really liked the overall look of those trucks. Now, being a professional mechanic and working at a shop where I see several C & K trucks with high mileage, I’m not sure I’d of been able to keep it going long enough to enjoy.
However, my first truck was a 75 C10 Scottsdale step side. It was a manual RWD gifted to me by my uncle for my 15th bday - it had over 300k when I got it and I drove it for nearly 11 years before a fateful night with an exit sign nearly ripped the RR fender completely off. I ended up selling it to someone who wanted to restore it.

Chevy has built some really great pickups. My father owned a C-20 RWD 3/4 ton, 350 cubic-inch mill. He beat the hell out of that poor pickup. Overloaded it all too often, but no leaf springs ever broke, and they should have, IMO. Thankfully it was before the "smog motors" came out, so it still had some decent power. I put an electronic ignition conversion kit in it when they first came out so no more points to change. I've never really liked the extended cab pickups, and prefer a two-door cab with an 8-foot box or bed.
I was just reading about how lots of Chevy lovers want Chevrolet to bring back the two-door, short bed pickups, but most buyers want the extended cab, or four-door cab pickups, so like all good businesses they likely did a cost to benefit analysis on what models were selling best and discontinued the 2-door, short bed pickups, at least in the North American marketplace.

These are really cool trucks... My dad has a 98 c1500 extended cab and that was the truck I started driving... I bought a 94 k1500 single cab stepside and I really like it

I've always liked the look of the step-sides too, but I occasionally haul lots of junk out to the landfill or cut firewood, so the long-bed works well for that. The GMT-400 series Chevy pickups were very nice indeed.
Got to be my '99 C1500 Suburban! Creeping up on 200k and still is running like she just rolled off the show room floor, and looks like it too! GM used to build one hell of a truck back in the day...

Yes they were. I do like the MFPI Vortec's over the TBI and the OBD II on the 1996 and up models. Chevy still builds nice vehicles, but as with all things in business, they have to keep up with the competition, which was mainly FoMoCo and Dodge pickups, but now they have the foreign makes moving in on full-sized pickups as well. Oh yeah, glass, not plastic headlights. I love those too.
