Default High School Truck

Hi y'all. I'm new to the forum. I'm curious as to what you guys think of a GMT400 4x4 as a high school truck. (I need a truck for the things i like do and because of the area i live)
Excluding gas, are those trucks affordable/reliable (insurance, parts, maintenance, etc.) assuming i can do basic repairs/maintenance myself like brakes, oil changes, (and of course the leaky intake gasket those trucks commonly have)and stuff like that?

I'll chime in here. I think the GMT 400 is a great high school truck. It was the square body's back when I was in high school. I'd have been proud to be parking my OBS (old body style) up in the high school parking lot. Haha
