i need help with my 1991 k1500 it will run but after sometime it just shuts off no sputter or anything. it has a new ignition system apparently i just bought, but after it dies i have to wait 2-4 hour before it will run again but im pretty sure that part of it is because of me trying to start it and flooding it. but when this does happen it is acting like there is no spark but it will randomly pop off if i turn the key for 2-3 seconds and slowly back they key off.... it does need a new trans but i dont think that would have a effect on it starting

 

Just a few things to think of, looking at the diagnosis section of my Haynes manual.

For engine hard to start when hot, they say to look at:

1. Air filter dirty
2. Fuel not reaching fuel injectors - you don't appear to be fuel injected, but still could be a fuel issue such as vapor lock.
3. Bad engine ground connection
4. Defective pickup coil in distributor.

For engine stalls (i.e. dying while running) they say to look at:

1. Idle speed incorrect. I don't think that sounds like your issue.
2. Fuel filter clogged
3. Damaged distributor cap or wires
4. Emissions system component faults
5. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs, or bad spark plug wires
6. Vacuum leak at throttle body, intake manifold or vacuum hoses.

When it is running from cold, does it run through the RPM range, or just at idle? Does it die under load?

 

What does "new ignition system" mean - ie detail all that was relpaced please
