Power steering nightmare..1993 K 1500
Hello good morning. I have a 1993 K 1500 with a 3-in lift and my favorite truck to drive. I recently replaced my power steering pump reservoir, both hoses and the pulley. I've tried several different ways to bleed the system and found that the best way was too slightly elevate the front of the truck, remove the cap and go lock to lock with the motor off. Thinking everything is fine and the air is gone I drive for 45 minutes and suddenly my pump is whining like crazy and I have no power steering. So I pulled over and check it out and I have no fluid to see in my reservoir. Or low enough not to register and make the pump start whining. The fluid is not coming out of the hoses or anywhere in the system I can see but seems that it is boiling out and coming through the cap and spilling out now I have to Bleed It Again this has happened to me twice in the last couple days. The second time it happened I lost enough fluid to where I could not turn the truck. Well I was able to turn it but just barely I could have had an accident easily. So needless to say I'm freaked out and frustrated anybody ever heard of this kind of thing going on with the power steering or how to fix it I'm buying a new cap today but my cap I have right now seems perfectly fine. So we shall see .....any ideas?
If I remember correctly, bleeding needs to be done with motor running so pump is running. I had to replace a blown hose on my 93 Suburban and remember needing to top off reservoir during bleeding process. My old notes say it took 1.5 qts
