Default Radio Bulbs

My 97 Silverado radio - the bulb for the 2/5 buttons was out. I purchased new bulbs from ebay, tested the bulb quickly with a 12v power supply, and soldered the new bulb in place. Again, using pin connectors, quickly bumped the solder to verify bulb would light and it did. Installed radio back in car and now that bulb and a few others don't illuminate.
What did I do? Did something fry?

thanks!

Update, I took radio back apart and removed a bulb no longer working. It was now "open" between the legs of the bulb. So i replaced it. and slowly did the other 8 not working.
Put radio back in and they all work!
What the heck? Why did all those bulbs fry at same time? Some strange excessive voltage hit it? Oh well.
I watched a youtube video of a guy showing how to replace the bulbs. Pretty easy if one is patient and works slowly.
