Should I rebuild?

96 half ton, 154,000 miles, little rust, newly rebuilt 4l60e has developed valve train noise that lasts about 15 minutes after starting. Also needs intake manifold gasket. Should I rebuild or do only what is necessary to quiet the rattle?
