smells like fuel
1988 chevy c1500 5.7, this is probably a really stupid question but when i open the doors when the truck is running (usually when idle, like dropping people off) it totally smells like fuel (only when the door is opened, not in the cab alone). Is this normal for these trucks (I just got this truck) or could this be some sort of fuel line leak? I have been having idling issues and it take a bit to crank in the mornings, especially now that its cold
X3. You have a fuel leak and may be back at the tank and on top that you cannot see till drop tank. Inspect while running and smell/look for the wet spot(s). If in the rust belt you may have to repair more than where the leak is at.
So i took it into the mechanic, he took a look at it and said that he couldn't find a fuel leak. He said that he found evidence of a fuel leak previously but couldnt find one. He did say something about the fuel pump gushing fuel on these types of trucks if the seal wasnt installed properly. I could have sworn i could smell fuel.. now when i think i smell something i second guess myself.
