05 silverado heat question
Hey guys I have an 05 1500 with 110k miles
I live in north dakota so gets pretty cold
In the morning the truck takes a long time to heat up I can let it warm up for 15-20 mins and it won't even really be warm yet
But as soon as I start driving it it gets warm and the heat works awesome, it's actually warmer than my other vehicles
Is there anything I can do about this or is there something wrong? Or is this how these trucks are?
Thanks!

Well I just noticed it because it started getting cold, only had it for a year but I feel like it was a little slow to warm up last winter as well.
for emissions, the time it takes the coolant to come up to temp is monitored. if there is a problem with the thermostat stuck open, a p0128 would be set. if this code is present, replace the thermostat.
if the coolant is low or air pockets exist in the cooling system, a low heat at idle condition can occur.
normally, it WILL take longer for the cooling system to come up to temp at idle vs driving.
also, when the system is up to temp, a faster running engine moves the water pump faster...moving more coolant thru the heater core= more heat.
