Ive done some testing and it appears that the purge solenoid won't open.


1) If I apply an external 12V source to the purge solenoid it will open.

2) a test meter shows 12V at the 2 wire connector for the purge solenoid

3) If a test light is placed between the red(ish) wire and ground the light comes on

4) If a test light is placed across the red(ish) and green wire the light does not come on

This is true with the engine running or just ignition on with engine near operating temps. is there a condition that needs to be met for the purge valve to open other that having the key in the run position?


I suspect a ground issue which is why im getting 12v with a meter but not with a test light.


does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows where the ground for this circuit is located or can suggest a spot to check or give a reason why that valve wont open other than what ive observed?

Yes it needs to be commanded open by the computer or a bidirectional diagnostic tool
