hello everyone. proud owner of a new to me 2001 silverado. 130k. coupe of days after i got the car i put it in a driveway with an incline and the parking brake was super stiff when i tried to push it. when it finally gave a little the brake light on my dash came on. checked fluid level and that seems fine. brake seemed to disengage just fine and i dont hear or feel any drag. not sure where to go from there. any advice greatly appreciated!!
kinda new to domestic trucks. traded a 2000 bmw with 180k for it. even trade.
the brake light indicator will come on for both low fluid level and when the parking brake is applied. If the problem is the light will not turn off, unplug the switch at the master cylinder. If the light turns off...the problem was with the fluid level, level switch or grded switch wire. If the light stays on the problem is with the ebrake
Just my 2 cents. It could also be that the previous driver never used the parking brake and everything is either rusty or corroded. I was told by my driving instructor when I first started driving, way back when, to either use the parking brake every time you park or never use it at all. I have a 99 Silverado and never use the parking brake. I bought it used with 118,xxx miles on it and now it's got just over 242,xxx miles.
