recently bought a 2006 sierra 1500 with the 5.3 in it and drove it for a week and then it just died while driving. I towed it home and it has no spark. but the kicker is it sat for a few days and then fired up for a couple seconds then died and has no spark again. I checked fuel pressure I'm getting 57 psi. I checked all grounds and power to the coils and they all have ground and power. crank sensor is reading cranking rpms. all ignition fuses have power. injectors are pulsing using a noid light. checked grounds on fired wall and the ground under drivers door they all have good ground. I changed ignition switch as well with one from a truck I had sitting there. I'm just lost a little bit, I don't see all 8 coils going bad at the same time. anyone ever have a similar situation. thanks!!

 

The first thing you need to do is to connect a decent OBDII code reader/live data scanner to the OBDII system and see what codes are present. Yes, even if the engine does not start, a decent code reader can retrieve the stored codes in the OBDII system as long as the ignition key is in the "ON" or "RUN" position.

The OBDII codes will give you a starting point as to why the engine will not start.

I have a good code reader. There was no codes that’s what was confusing me. But I found the problem. Was looking around and had seen where someone had cut the pink wire on coil harness. Was getting power with test light but must not have been enough to fire. Put a butt connector in and fires right up. I knew it was gonna be something stupid like that.

Well thought it was repaired lol changed oil and tried starting and no spark again pulled fuse box up and found chewed wires. Don’t know if that’s problem but need repaired anyways. Still fighting with this truck I’ve bought lol

Critter damage. Yes, you need to repair the wires going into/out of the electrical center. One or more might be going to the PCM which as you know controls everything. Also, look over all the harnesses.

The critter damage is likely responsible as to why the PCM did not throw a P0201 - P0208 DTC (fuel injector control circuit malfunction) or a P0351 - P0358 DTC (ignition coil control circuit malfunction).
