4l60e trans has something broken but is entire tranny bad??
2000 Chevy Silverado transmission started not shifting into higher gears then the lower gears but never any clunking sounds. could turn it on and put in drive and it wouldn't go anywhere. took it to mechanic and they said they were able to get it into 2nd gear and drive it into shop. They mentioned something was probably broken inside (planetary gear or pin etc.). It sounded like it was not the entire transmission that is bad but aren't offering any solutions other than new trans...is there an option that can repair issue without replacing entire transmission?? Thanks for any feedback!

It has 139,000 miles on it. I changed the filter and fluid on drove it about 20 miles, put it in park and it never went back into drive. I have since changed the 2 solenoids. Their name has transmission in it so I think they mostly do them?? Thanks

Cost analysis
they gave a quote for a replacement at $3,000.00 +/-
I've found some rebuilt and reinforced online for 1400.00 (5 year / 100,000 mile warranty)
This is in addition to the possibility its only a pin or something that can be fixed for thousands cheaper. I think I'll ask him if he will drop it and look inside to see if its possible to identify a cause. Worst case I can have other one ready to be delivered and replaced.
$1400 + Labor = Maximum damage to wallet
