99 5.7L has no balls ...,
I got this old truck off a side of the road from a private sale. It has a manual toggle switch hotwired in as a bypass for a faulty ignition. and 200K on it.
I have a major problem with it that i just cant figure out.
When the truck is started, I need to let it idle for a couple minutes or it will run like crap. Also, it wont jsut GO off the line. I have to slowly creep into the intersection or across the road before the engine will allow it to rev up and go.
once it clears that fisrt 1000 rpm, it runs OK, i just cant floor it withouth bogging down like its out of gas. If i slowly press the gas pedal, it will sound and run perfect, but just not if you press the gas hard.
any ideas i can try?>
I've repaired gas tank, gas line, ran seafoam and heat through. replaced disgtributor cap and sparkplugs. we tested the fuel pump and have pressure there (my mechanic budd did this.) I dont know what else to try.

You need to know exactly how much fuel pressure it does have. Google the info on required pressure. My 01 did the same thing when the fuel pump would run but was with weak pressure. Remove the fuel filter and see if you can blow thru it.
there is no fuel filter. it was cut out and replaced with hose.
almost as if its on choke or something. You saying it could be the fuel pump?
EDIT: mechanic said it was 60. fuel pump reads good.
i'm starting to think about Mass airflow or some sort or air leak...
damn truck

So, yeah. It still runs crappy at startup and from stop. I did everything short of smoke the engine looking for some sort of intake or vacuum leak. I just replaced the air filter and Air Intake controller (AIC?).
any other ideas guys? the CEL came on way late.
