Question Allison to 4L80E Swap, shift linkage conversion?

Need help! I have a 2001 2500HD 4x4 that started life as an 8.1L gasser with the Allison. Converted it to a Dart 540 and the problems began. Currently have 4L80E tranny, engine and tranny have their own controllers, but I can't get the shift linkage and neutral safety switch to work right. I'm thinking that the shift lever in the column that is intended for the 5 speed Allison travels too far for the 4 speed 4L80E, and the overtravel is yanking the cable out of adjustment? Anybody know if shift lever parts are different between the two transmissions? I can't find a parts interchange or an exploded view of the two columns side by side to check through the parts lists. Bonus question for instrument panel experts? Have an instrument panel from a truck with the 4L80E, would like help matching it up. Its not a direct swap, the plug fits in the cluster, but the pin pattern is different. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
