Default Brake controller / RV hook up

Have a 2000 silverado. It already has a 7 prong RV style hook up that it came with. I installed a brake controller and harness to the box under the dash. I have no power to the controller. Is it as easy as just hooking up the red wire located under the hood in the fuse box to the 30 amp post to fix my problems?

It's easier than that. You just need to install a fuse. Look at your underhood load center...

I forget which one it is, but either one of the green 30A fuses at either end of the row of large fuses - labeled Stud 1 or Stud 2 - or the circled orange one need to be installed, and you should have power to the brake controller and the trailer plug.

If you had the original factory pigtail for the brake controller that plugs in under the dash, there should have been a fuse taped to the bundle.
